Describe a moment or scene in a sentence - falling leaves outside your window, the smell of rain on hot pavement - and Claude AI composes a real 5-7-5 haiku from it, following the classical kigo (seasonal word) convention, and explains which kigo it chose, why, and which classical poets are historically associated with that word.
Description
Haiku looks simple - three lines, seventeen syllables - but the form most people learn in school skips its actual backbone: the kigo, a word or phrase that fixes the poem to a specific season and carries centuries of accumulated association. Without a kigo, a three-line poem is just a short poem, not a haiku in the classical sense. Haiku Muse teaches that distinction by building it into every poem it writes. Describe a moment or scene in your own words - a single sentence is enough. A cup of coffee going cold while you watch snow start. The first cicada of the summer. Our AI, composing in the classical 5-7-5 syllable structure, turns your moment into a real haiku and picks a genuine kigo appropriate to the scene from Japan's traditional seasonal-word almanacs (saijiki). It then explains, in plain language, which kigo it used, which season and sub-season it belongs to (early spring, midsummer, first frost, and so on), and why that word fit your moment. Each haiku also comes with a short note on the classical poets historically associated with that kigo or a closely related one - Matsuo Basho's frog and old pond, Yosa Buson's spring rain, Kobayashi Issa's small creatures - so a single generated poem becomes a doorway into real literary history rather than a novelty one-liner. The Muse Log tab saves every haiku you generate along with its kigo explanation, so your collection becomes a personal, season-tagged anthology over time. A limited number of free haiku are available each day, with the option to unlock more by watching a short rewarded ad.

About Ads

This app displays ads via Google AdMob, including a banner at the bottom of the screen. Free haiku generations are limited to 5 per day; once that limit is reached, watching a rewarded video ad unlocks 3 additional generations. The moment or scene text you enter is sent to Anthropic's Claude API solely to generate your haiku and is not permanently stored on our servers.

Roadmap

Why This App

Most "haiku generators" produce any three short lines and call it done, skipping the seasonal-word convention that actually defines the form. Haiku Muse starts from an everyday moment and turns it into a real 5-7-5 poem built around a genuine kigo, with an explanation of the season and the poets tied to it - so a thirty-second app interaction leaves you with a small, real piece of Japanese literary tradition instead of a generic rhyme.
