Ukiyo-e - "pictures of the floating world" - are some of the most recognized images in art history: Hokusai's Great Wave, Hiroshige's rain-swept bridges, Utamaro's portraits of Edo-period women. Most people have seen one printed on a mug or a tote bag, but almost no one outside Japan knows how these prints were actually made, or which one resonates with a moment in their own life. Ukiyo-e Vision closes that gap. Describe a scene from your day or how you're feeling right now - a quiet rain outside your window, a crowd you pushed through on the way to work, a stillness before a decision - and our AI, working from a curated set of real, historically documented ukiyo-e prints, matches you to the single work that fits best. Each match comes with a clear explanation of why it was chosen, who made it and when, and what it actually depicts. Every match also includes a plain-language breakdown of the nishiki-e multi-block printing process behind it: how a single design was separated into a keyblock line drawing and multiple color blocks, how bokashi gradation was hand-brushed onto the woodblock before printing, and, for prints that use it, how mica dust (kirazuri) or blind-embossing (karazuri) added texture no single block of color could. The Prints tab lets you browse the full curated collection - Hokusai's Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, Hiroshige's Meisho Edo hyakkei, Utamaro's bijin-ga, Sharaku's kabuki actor portraits - as a standalone reference any time.
